The Andaz Condesa first day of operation. Mexico City’s Newest Hotel: Andaz Mexico City

Centrally positioned in the capital city’s La Condesa neighborhood, a first urban Andaz in the country and Andaz’s second in Mexico. Dog people will be elated with this beautiful hotel’s amenities. It was very interesting to be amongst the first guests, and bumping elbows with Travel and Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler.

Hyatt’s newest hotel is ideally situated amongst many of the city’s most noteworthy art galleries, boutiques, and restaurants. It shares space with the Mondrian, which the Andaz guests can use for dining or drinking.

The 17-floor hotel, designed by José Luis Benlliure Galán, is comprised of 213 rooms, 20 of which are suites. A rooftop restaurant and a smallish pool, which was not in operation when we arrived. The staff allowed us to go up. The rooftop provides an amazing view of Mexico City. The pool is Mexico city’s highest rooftop pools.

Standard/King rooms are 344 Square feet, painted in earthy grays and whites, with touches of pink. Suites are ranging from 592 to 667 Square feet; the largest Executive suite boasts 926 Square feet. Some suites are with balconies overlooking the lovely Condesa neighborhood. We were upgraded to a 667 Square foot suite. One of the most interesting amenities in the room was a vinyl record player. There is a vinyl library in the lobby, and guests may borrow those to play in their room. We did not. For the fitness folks, they have a spa and a full gym.

On the ground level is the Derba Matcha Café serving all sorts of coffees and teas. Below are images of the Globalist breakfast that we had daily:

We arrived around lunchtime, and were greeted by the General Manager, the front desk Manager, and several other people who work at the hotel.

They showed us around the hotel, including the small restaurant on the second floor where Globalists can have breakfast. They told us about the wonderful neighborhood of La Condesa, known as an artistic neighborhood, and is known as Mexico city’s most fashionable. It borders the Roma neighborhood. The architecture in La Condesa is art deco, the dining is excellent ranging from high-end restaurants to top-notch street food, boutiques and art galleries, and the Parque Mexico, where you’ll see tons of very well behaved dogs. Status recognition is wonderful, we did not ask for an upgrade, but were upgraded to a one bedroom suite (City View):

Condesa is one of the greenest neighborhoods in Mexico City, streets are lined with magnificent shade trees and pergolas. Just outside of La Condesa is the oldest and largest parks in all of Latin America; Parque Chapultepec. It is twice the size of Central Park, Mexico’s ancient and current history are here, you’ll see ruins of an ancient Aztec aqueduct and baths to a fountain and mural by Diego Rivera. The park boasts nine museums a botanical garden and a zoo.

You certainly can walk safely in most neighborhoods, but Mexico City is enormous, and it’s perpetually full of traffic. Uber is your friend. It is very inexpensive, in fact, surprisingly cheap.

To the numbers:

The Andaz Condesa is a category 4 despite being Hyatt’s luxury brand.

We spent a total of 42,000 Hyatt points + 1 Category 1-4 free night award.

We earned 12,000 points, back, how? I am not sure, but upon our return home, the app showed 12,000 points for this trip. I'd guess that it's an error. As you typically do not earn points on a point stay.

We were upgraded to the City View Suite, cash price per night $782

We booked a standard king room, cash price $248
